Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. In 1998, Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) became the first automotive assembly plant in the U.S. to be ISO 14001 certified. Through innovative kaizen efforts, SIA then achieved zero landfill status on May 4, 2004. SIA’s environmental stewardship programs continue to achieve outstanding results. Since 2000, on a per unit basis, SIA has reduced its CO2 emissions by 30%, volatile organic compound emissions by 26%, pounds per unit of steel used by 43%, and waste generated by 51%. Read more.
